DIRECTOR OF GLOBAL MARKETPLACES, CHINA 

Amala Beauty is an international luxury skincare brand with roots in the 5 and 6-star Luxury International Destination Spas and have built partnerships with the most discerning clientele since 2008. Today, Amala continues its global expansion with its recent entry into the Chinese market through online marketplaces including our launch with a branded TMall store in December 2020. To continue on our growth trajectory, we are seeking an experienced Director of Global Marketplaces, China to continue to drive our business interest in the country.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the sales and marketing activities for Amala’s China Ecommerce Marketplace channel; manage direct relationships with Partners, Wholesalers, and Marketplaces.
  • Manage marketing activation initiatives (incl. social/KOL), key shopping opportunities, promotions, and events to drive significant awareness and revenue growth.
  • Global Marketplace P&L responsibility; creation of budgets and execution and delivery of approved budgets.
  • Be a champion for the Brand, representing the interests of the Brand while adhering to the overarching brand strategy and creative direction; including the creation of localized content.

REGION:

Primary focus is Mainland China and Hong Kong.

Mandarin - Native Professional proficiency 

English - Native or Professional proficiency 

POSITION SUMMARY:

A successful candidate will have a deep and demonstrated understanding of the Luxury Market in China, preferably in luxury beauty. Additionally, they will have experience leading the business and working closely with local Trading Partners as well as US and/or European-based brands.

To succeed in this role, you must be committed to the luxury brand positioning of the brand as well as understand the nuances of luxury within the marketplace. This role is responsible for driving rapid expansion of revenues and profits via the Global Ecommerce Marketplace channel, deploying resources including advertising and promotional budget to drive brand awareness and conversion. 

You will be responsible for driving top line revenue growth while laying the foundation for opportunities to expand margin and grow the bottom line as the Marketplace landscape becomes streamlined and optimized.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the sales and marketing activities for the Company’s China Ecommerce Marketplace channel (Tmall.com and more) in partnership with the US-based management team
  • Manage direct relationships with Marketplace accounts and specialty partners.
  • Drive significant revenue growth through the Marketplace channel.
  • Manage all marketing activation initiatives including Trade Partnerships, PR, social/KOL’s, key shopping opportunities (inclusive of major holidays), and events to drive awareness and growth with ensuring alignment with Leadership.
  • Develop and present a marketing and advertising budget to drive Marketplace channel sales; update quarterly and adhere to guidelines regarding pricing, promotional strategy, and advertising budget once established, presented to and approved by Leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to expand the breadth of product portfolio positioned to the Marketplace channel; conduct competitive set analysis to inform positioning and create a roadmap for gaining market share. Partner with the Marketing team including Product and Education to ensure consistency while meeting the individual marketplace demands.
  • Be a champion for the Company vision and mission, representing the interests of the Brand while adhering to the overarching brand strategy and creative direction; including the creation of localized content.
  • Conduct a thorough review of the Company’s global reach via the Marketplace channel; collaborate with Company’s Operations and Corporate Governance leadership to advise on changes to practice or policy, and to suggest new pathways for growth.
  • Dialogue with legal advisors as directed regarding matters such as Terms & Conditions, Supply/Distribution Agreements, and Trademarks & Copyrights.
  • Collaborate with Company’s Operations team and supply product level forecasts to ensure supply and limit potential out of stock situations.
  • Identify opportunities to acquire brand-loyal customers and capture their data (in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations). 
  • Develop a regular reporting cadence and collaborative approach that will support ongoing global product development and optimizations efforts as well as global brand building activities.

 OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION:

  • Drive significant gains in revenue via the Marketplace channel, and support the Company’s vision of building this channel into a strategic profit center.
  • Expand the Company’s global brand awareness by onboarding and optimizing international Global Marketplace opportunities.
  • Maintain brand integrity and positioning; manage the number of online resellers carrying the brand, and sustain a consistent position in the market through effective policy enforcement.
  • Global Marketplace P&L responsibility; creation of budgets and execution and delivery of approved budgets.
